Make clear performance comparisons

Keep periods, dates, and return definitions consistent when you compare sector benchmarks.

A useful comparison uses the same window and the same kind of return.

Step 01

Choose the period and end date

Open Sector Performance and review the available benchmark return periods. Compare instruments over the same interval ending on the same session. A short window can emphasize a recent move while a longer one includes earlier changes in direction.

Step 02

Read the benchmark labels

Check which instrument represents each sector. A benchmark is a defined security or series, while a sector aggregate may be calculated from covered constituent stocks. These are different ways to describe market behavior and their values can differ.

Step 03

Know which return you are reading

The workspace presents price returns from available benchmark history. Price return measures the change in price and should not be treated as total return with distributions reinvested. Use the same return definition when comparing with a source outside the app.

Step 04

Inspect and export

Review the available history behind a comparison and export observations when useful. Keep the benchmark names, ending date, and selected period with your file. If a return is unavailable, investigate coverage before replacing it with another value.
